Xenia, Ohio
Xenia (pronounced Zeen-yuh) is the county seat of Greene County. Located in southwestern Ohio near Dayton. The name comes from the Greek word Xenia which means “hospitality”.
Xenia was founded in 1803 by John Paul who bought 2,000 acres from Thomas and Elizabeth Richardson of Hanover County, Virginia. The first log school house was constructed in 1805. Xenia became a city in 1834. However, it was the arrival of the Little Miami Railroad in 1843 which gave the city its first big industrial impetus. Today five of the six rail tracks have been converted to rail-trails. The one exception, the B&O line west of town, is not a separate trail because it closely paralleled the Pennsylvania mainline. With so many trails in town the water tower refers to Xenia as the “Bicycle Capital of the Midwest”.
Because transportation and healthy economies go hand-in-hand, the convenient and accessible movement of people and products is a major asset for Xenia. Its location within the nation's largest 90-minute air travel market, with access to nearby Dayton International Airport, reaches over two-thirds of the nation's population and businesses. Companies using corporate aircraft will also enjoy the added convenience of the Greene County - Lewis A. Jackson Regional Airport just west of Xenia.
With a population over 25,000, Xenia is friendly, people/family oriented, and known for its hospitality. As the county seat, the city is strategically located between Greene County's suburbanized western half and the rural areas to the east.
