The east-west highways U.S. highway 40 and Interstate route 70 also go through Englewood, with the interchange at Route 48 being a major exit on the expressway, with many motels and restaurants located there.

 

 

History of Englewood, Ohio

The Village of Englewood was incorporated on May 15, 1914 and Jacob Hoover was the first mayor. The population had risen to 415 by 1930 and over 600 by 1940. Englewood became a city in 1971. The early settlers made their living basically from agriculture. They shipped grain and bacon down the Stillwater River on flat bottom boats to Dayton and as far south as New Orleans.

After the Great Dayton Flood of 1913, the Miami Conservancy District constructed a dry dam on the Stillwater River in Englewood. U.S. Route 40 is routed over this dam, giving a scenic view of Englewood MetroPark upstream and Aulwood Audubon Center downstream.

Englewood is served by the Northmont City School District of Montgomery County, Ohio.

The schools include: Northmont High School, Northmont Middle School, Englewood, Englewood Hills, Northmoor, Northwood, O. R. Edgington, Phillipsburg and Union Elementarys.
